Strollway Centre – Columbia, Missouri
Received the Historic Commercial Revitalization
Award for Missouri – 2001
The original façade of this building had
been destroyed in the 1950’s, by breaking all terra cotta
projections and cladding the building with a metal skin. In order
for the owners to obtain their historic tax credits, it was necessary
that the exterior façade be restored to historic standards.
This required the replacement of the entire upper terra cotta
cornice and associated decorative pieces. We removed all masonry
infills that had been constructed in the 50’s, and returned
the windows to their oariginal state.
On
this project, we were unable to obtain a close match of the glazed
faced brick, and as a result we removed brick from an alley elevation
and used them in the highly visible areas. We were able to replace
the brick in the alley with a dissimilar brick and tuckpointed
the entire building.
